America’s Next Top Doppleganger

I keep seeing this hideous (but funny) ad for Ellen Degeneres’ talk show.

Is it just me, or does Doreen from Ohio look like the older, housewife-y version of Lisa D’Amato from America’s Next Top Model? You know, the one who peed in a diaper and talked to a tree that she called “Cousin It.”

Look, I watch Ellen because I have three kids and THAT’S ENOUGH DRAMA. Actually, the Ellen Show has been full of drama, lately, so I guess Doreen might not be watching it any more.

How about the new season of America’s Next Top Model, though? Love it. Love Wednesdays.

I watch America’s Next Top Model, because I only have a cat, and that’s not enough drama.

The sights of New York City, part deux

As requested by Ian, I bring you penguin boy:

Lara and I saw him on our way out on Friday night, after spending three hours at
the Bourgeois Pig
. The fondue was nice and all, but when it gets to the point where it dawns on you that you could have watched Titanic in the time that you spent waiting and eating (mostly waiting)… it’s just not right. And it leaves you with Celine Dion stuck in your head.

But I digress. There was this guy dressed up as a penguin. I assume it was for a job, seeing as he has fliers, but who knows. Maybe he’s just a penguin enthusiast. Judging by the look on his face, I’m guessing not. I’d hoped that by using my iPhone, he wouldn’t notice that I was taking a picture. Looks like I failed.

At least I didn’t yell, “It’s too hot outside for a penguin!”

The sights of New York City

One of the most amazing things about living in New York? The ridiculous people you see on the streets. You want an example? Ok, I can provide one:

Where to begin? I love the back hair. I love how oddly small his lower body is, and how oddly long his shorts are. I love that little rag he tied around his head. I love his vein-y arms. I love the fact that he can’t walk with his arms against his body. I love it. I love it all.

File under: How cute is this?

My mom likes to send me random adorable animal news that she runs across. So when I found this, I was super jazzed:

Let’s Be Friends

There is probably nothing cuter than mismatched animal friends. It’s just a fact.

Britney Spears’ perfume

So I kept forgetting to post a link to this hilarious post at Jezebel doing a smell test with Britney Spears’ new perfume and the Vulva perfume that’s supposed to smell like pheremones and lady parts.

Now it appears that whoever designed her perfume packaging ripped off a charitable organization.

Stay klassi, Brit!

But what about jail?

This is from last Friday, but it will always be funny.

Rewind: Rooftops in Bushwick

Rooftop in Brooklyn

I was looking through my photos and realized that I’d forgotten to blog about the last time I hung out with Katrina. She invited me to a rooftop party in Bushwick that she found out about via MyOpenBar.com, a magical yet dangerous website. We met and had brunch at Willburg Cafe and caught up, and then proceeded to spend about 45 minutes searching for the party. When we first got out of the subway, we were delighted to see that the sidewalks had been chalked with directions to the barbecue.

Or so we thought. It turned out that those directions were for an entirely different shindig, so we turned around and walked back to the subway to start over again. It turns out that neither one of us are any good at directions. We had to go back to the map in the subway station four or five times before we figured it out. Maps is hard :(

Once we got there, it was interesting. In addition to the free keg beer and PBR that MyOpenBar.com had promised, The New Pop was there filming a video for the Mariella Show. We were on the rooftop listening to music for a little while before it dawned on us that they were playing the same song over and over for the video shoot. Ooops! But then they went on to play several other songs.

the Mariella Show

Fun stuff. Later, we went to Daddy’s, where I proceeded to drink too much and acted like a twit. But let’s gloss over that, shall we? I also lost the cute Betsy Johnson shirt that I’d bought earlier in the day at Pirate Supplies.

Or did I?

I called the bar the next day, and thankfully they had found it and held it for me. Leslie: 1, World: 0. Or it was until I lost my portable hard drive the next week, so I guess it would technically be Leslie: 1, World: 1. Oh, well. Although the hard drive was more expensive, at least it was replaceable.

More photos after the cut. (more…)

Best second season ever?

It better be, or I am suing Comedy Central for false advertising. How could it have slipped my mind that the Sarah Silverman Program is starting it’s second season tomorrow? Looks like Ian and I have plans tomorrow.

I’m famous!

Ok, so maybe I’m not, but I did make the news.

I went to visit my sister this past weekend in DC. It’s her last weekend as a DC metro area resident, and I went down to join her on her farewell tour of the city. On Friday night, we went to the Liberation Dance Party at DC9, one of my DC traditions that I remember fondly. We had fun, but Dylan – if you are out there reading this, it was not the same without you. They projected the tv show “Dinosaurs” on the wall, which was a little creepy, yet funny.

On Saturday, we went to the Legwarmers concert. The Legwarmers are an 80s cover band that plays shows once or twice a month at the State Theatre in Falls Church. It’s a bit of a trek to get out there because it’s not on the metro route, but the place was packed with people in 80s gear. All was going fairly well until some drunk girl punched one of the girls who had come with us because she was “in her space.” I would like to formally suggest that if you don’t like having people in your space, you should not go to concerts. Save the punches for when douchebag boys decide that it’s ok to cop a feel just because you’re standing near them.

All and all, the evening turned out pretty well. For me, anyway, seeing as nobody punched me and I got to sing along to “Don’t Stop Believing.”

And here I am, back in New York, where Lara will be joining me shortly as a brand new New York resident! I’ll post more pictures from this weekend later, when I have access to my camera.
